Just purchased a model 1896 Swedish Mauser, caliber 6.5x55 in excellent condition. After reading about the quality and accuracy of these guns, I had to add it to my collection. Also, reading that the ballistics were slightly better than 6.5 Creedmore, and that I had a set of 6.5x55 dies in a lot of reloading equipment I bought from a friend, the rifle followed me home. Now just waiting for good weather to shoot it. At 600 yards, the 6.5x55 drops 90 inches (140 gr bullet), compared to 120 inches for a .308 (168 gr bullet).

"Capt." - Great acquisition!

The Swedish Mauser is a beautiful thing. It couples great performance and workmanship with light recoil.

It is a dream to reload and the 160 grain RN projectile has amazing penetration.

I have a 'minty' model 1938 short rifle and an 1894 carbine, that I rebuilt from 'Bubba'.

I wish I had a Norwegian Krag with a fine bore! I love the 6.5X55mm cartridge.

My Swedish Mauser is one of the rifles I own that makes me feel like I'm American Sniper Chris Kyle when I shoot it!

Straight and flat shooter...Nice!

I found a load my Swede likes: PPU brass, Hornady 140gr. ELD match bullet, 41.0 gr. H4350, WLR primer, OAL 3.050". 1 3/4 inch group at 300 yards. My picture would not attach.

Any advice on good hunting grounds for a Swede? I shoot an original A4 in the CMP sniper matches that groups well but the 2.5 scope with post can be challenging. A couple of guys in my club have the Swede and they shoot very well. What's an expected price?

Prices seem to be all over the range, but an average looks to be around $700.00. I paid $450.00 for mine, diligent research, may produce a bargain.
