Is the 5 pointed star on the underside of the barrel or is it at the 6 O'clock position on the muzzle crown? If on the muzzle crown, it would be indicative of a 1903 Springfield Star Gaged barrel. There was a special gage used to measure the bore/rifling. Exceptional bores/barrels were star gaged and used mostly for National Match rifles.
