found a 1898 krag carbine, made 1898 fair to good condition, missing rear sight hand guard, stock look as it was refinish,  serial #999##.  wants $995.00  Has carbine rear sight , still learning .Thought I mention.  Semper Fi

Doesn't fit the serial number range for an authentic 1898 carbine. We would need to see pictures to see what you have and help put a value on it. In my opinion, that price seems way too high for what is likely a cut down 1898 rifle. It would be worth more if it, by chance, had an 1896 carbine rear sight which is worth upwards of $600 by itself.

Highly unlikely, though. If you can post pictures or give more info, that would help! Might only be worth parts value of a few hundred, mostly the rear sight if it is one of the carbine sights.

Keep looking, though. You'll find a good one eventually!

Since model 1898 Krag serial numbers start at around 109,000, it is likely Krag #99,9XX is a model 1896 action.

#99K would be outside the range for model 1896 carbines.
