A work of art and beauty. I bought the 1898 advertised in the classifieds. As described, very nice.

I'm not sure how to describe it, but this rifle feels better than any other military long arm I have handled. I have a 1903, a Nagant, and the boy has an 8mm Mauser, and an SKS. I've fired Garands as well.

This rifle is balanced well, snugs in just right. The diameter of the stock and grip are just perfect.

Of course I did. Getting dark but I loaded 5 rounds and stepped out the back door. I have full size steel plate targets (terrorist and street thug) at 25 ft, 50 ft and 40 yards.

The action is crisp and the recoil is mild and very manageable. It grouped very nicely at 40 yards. Freehand I put them all in a 2 inch circle. Shoots slightly right. I didn't mess with the rear sight but I expect the adjustment is sensitive enough to correct perfectly.

I was concerned at first about the tiny rear sight slit but once shouldered with a target the sights are just lovely.
