Title: HeyJoe's 'school rifle' revisit. Post by butlersrangers on Feb 1st, 2019 at 6:34am
Back in September, 2017, 'HeyJoe' made a Post, involving his possible School Rifle, serial # 342910.
His 'short rifle' was a bit of an enigma. Some things looked good: a real model 1899 carbine barrel and action - (9 stamped over 8 variation), a credible stock with a second faint cartouche, barrel stepped for Krag bayonet. Some things were odd: The front barrel-band fit to wood was a bit suspicious, rear-sight was a rare model 1898 'three-notch' carbine-sight and receiver serial number not in range for 1898 sight, and sight screw and front blade were poor replacements. In view of 'Whig's' short rifle being considered a possible Philippine Constabulary rifle, maybe, HeyJoe's short rifle deserves closer scrutiny? |
