Always nice to read new articles about people discovering the greatness of the Krag (which we already know!)

That is a nice short article. What makes it good is that the author actually had personal experience with the Krag and didn't just read and write about this rifle.

'Whig' - Thanks for posting the American Rifleman link.

I still get the "American Rifleman" magazine, so, I am not always aware of stories that may appear on the NRA internet sites.

This is an enjoyable account for guys that savor stories of family heirlooms, relationships, and hunting with Krags.

The "no name" peep-sight, on Uncle Jack's Krag, was the product of Leroy Rice. This Elyria, Ohio, maker was a regular advertiser in the "American Rifleman", back in the 1930's to 1950's or 60's.

Rice, also, likely produced the 'Barrel-Receiver Fillet' that is on Uncle Jack's Krag. This gives a streamlined contour to the transition-step from barrel to receiver.

Note, this Rice peep-sight is adjusted very high to compensate for the very high 'banded' front sight. I wonder if there is a discrete barrel-band or barrel-screw, anchoring the barrel to the forestock?

On close examination of a picture in the 'Rifleman' article, it appears Uncle Jack's Krag may have a Rice "Spring Adjustable Barrel Band".

Some gunsmiths sure knew their work 'back in the day'.

I think he mentioned that spring barrel band in the article which I had never heard of. That's a great picture showing what it is, thanks.

You should leave a comment on the site under the article about the Rice site. I have heard you guys write about them but I don't have any and am not an expert. I'm sure the author would appreciate the info.

I would be glad to give the author, John Haviland, information on the Elroy Rice products on his 'Uncle Jack's Rifle'.

I attempted to use the comment tool. Unfortunately, it appears to require a subscription to "Disqus", which carries a $9.00 monthly fee, unless I totally misunderstand the process.

I am an NRA - Life Member and continue to get the "American Rifleman" magazine.

If someone wishes to comment, below Mr. Haviland's article, about the Leroy Rice items and credits the KCA Forum, I would be pleased.

When you go to the link above that Whig posted you will find another link at the end of the writing under "Additional Reading" titled "Hornady Saves the 30-40 Krag". A nice article about Hornady's LOADED 30-40 Krag ammo.

Am in Afghanistan and cannot open NRA messages/email nor access NRA links on the nework that we have. Could someone upload this article as a PDF file so I can copy it or send a PM to me with it?  Thanks.
