Fact: Tractors use to have Sperm Whale Oil as transmission fluid.

I suppose it insured the fertility of the soil!  :o

Back in the late 1960's 'SWO' was still available and legal. It had long been used as a fine oil for firearms. Civil War Skirmishers and 'Buckskinners' swore by it for use on percussion-locks and flint-locks.

It has a very pungent 'fishy' odor you cannot forget. I have a Browning Machine Gun oil can full of it for when I need a fine oil.

Of course it use to be used for illumination in whale oil lamps - pungent!
