The US Krag action, appropriately barreled and chambered, is perfectly capable of handling rimless cartridges with the rim and body diameter of the 30/06. Neither of these features presents any particular hazard in itself - it's the higher pressure of standard 30/06 loads that exceeds the design limits of the Krag action. (Some US Krags in ceremonial service were re-chambered for 30/06 blanks and used extensively with such low-pressure ammunition.)

The very similar Norwegian Krag action is designed for a rimless cartridge (6.5x55) with slightly greater diameter than the 30/06 and handles it nicely.
