Title: First krag, trying to figure out what I have.
Post by JoelTheMedic on Apr 21st, 2019 at 2:29am
Hello

I was recently given by my grandfather a rifle. It is 6.5mmx55. He called it a krag, it's not marked anywhere on the rifle however. It has the iconic krag magazine. It's in great shape, there are few markings on the gun. On the bolt itself is stamped "8429", on the receiver on the right hand side of the rifle is stamped "1906" and again "8429" there is two symbols I cannot make out (not because of condition they are in great shape I just cant make out what it is, potentially a crown?) And then on the metal butt stock "2796".

I am going to try to get some pictures up for you all too see

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks so much

Joel

Joel - Welcome to the KCA Forum.

It is likely your Krag is a Norwegian model 1895 Cavalry Carbine.

#8429 was built in 1906 at the Kongsberg Vappenfabrikk, (Arms Factory), in Norway.

Your barrel should measure about 20 and 1/2 inches in length. The carbine stock has a short forearm, secured with a single barrel-band, (Like a sporting-arm).
The odd marking, you mention, is likely a stylized "K" & Crown, for Kongsberg.

Pictures of your Krag would be enjoyed by forum members.
