"RITZ" is probably the nickname of a previous civilian owner.
The "J" may indicate a post 1905 arsenal rebuild location. The other marks mentioned sound like Proof, steel lot, sub-inspection & inspection stamps, and acceptance cartouche. The "U" on the barrel-band is an assembly or orientation 'aid'. (The open end of the "U" points toward the muzzle). |
