I doubt 'Krag competitors' were reloading at their matches.

It does appear an array of chemicals was carried to wash fired Brass and rescue it from mercuric priming and corrosive propellants, for future use.

There was also bullet lubricant and a device to apply it. This was due to barrel deposit issues with early bullet jackets.

Some mighty volatile solvents were also carried to preserve precious barrel metal from nasty ammo!

I am glad we have benefited from the evolution and refinements of modern ammunition.

Not everything about the 'Good Old Days' was Good!
