Title: Camp Perry 2019
Post by Culpeper on Jun 5th, 2019 at 11:18pm
Well?  What's the word on the street?  Who's going?  What are ya shooting?

Can't make it this year but will be there in spirit.  Too bad it is not broadcast like the Olympics.

Of course, you know I'll be there!  I'll be shooting the usual suspects:  Krag for Roosevelt, K31 for Vintage, Garand for Garand, and 1903A3 for the Springfield Match.  I'm also going to try my hand at the long range match with the 1903A3!

Gosh, you're in it for the full Monty, Paul. Good luck!

Looks like you'll be busy at the reloading table until then.

Keep your powder dry!

I’ll be there a day or two after the Roosevelt Match (can’t make it earlier) to watch the matches, but I look forward to meeting all who will be around that weekend.

Ok...  Why is it things always take a turn for the bazaar, twisted, dirty?  Hmmm?  (Not that I mind since I'm pretty bazaar, twisted and dirty myself!)

Bizzare - a bazaar is where you go to get fleeced.

That made me laugh Dick.  I realized how I had misspelled it... and I chuckled right out loud!

My getting fleeced would in itself be quite bizarre!

I am not sure at present.  I'm having a few cash flow problems, and the Volvo needs a new exhaust!  I have a selection of loads for the parkerized Krag.  Russian steel jacketed 173s @ around 2400fps, some 311284 loaded to around 2000fps, or the caseful of powder Hornady 150s, which ought to be going around 2700fps.  The Garand has been giving me a hard time.  It might be the used Tasco pistol scope I bought, but I've not had time or money to test the Tasco's replacement yet.  I have loads for the K31 and for the AR in .223.  I wanted to get a 6x45 AR together for the Modern Military match.  I don't think I have the funds to complete the 6x45 upper, but I can simply swap barrels, provided I can find my torque wrench.

Gee...what are you doing in your spare time!

Sounds like you need about a week on the range just to get sighted in.

Yes, and lack of money has made for few range trips during this good weather.  A good 100yd zero and making use of some of the online ballistic software would suffice.  Least it did with my AR last year.  X number of inches high at 100 = close enough at 200.  I started hitting 10s right off the bat!   Wound up with a 97 and 96-3x from prone!  Nevermind standing, I wasn't used to holding that little gun and got some adrenaline flowing from the prone scores!  Does that adrenaline stuff make you all shake, or is it just me?

Yep and not just you.  I get it bad even when there is no pressure just plinking on a paper target.  Deep breaths calms it down.  I feel like I am in school taking a test that I could not care less about but needed the grade like crazy.

Adrenaline, if you're practiced and prepared, can help you focus intensely to get the job done well.

Caffeine, on the other hand, can make you nervous and shaky even if you're well practiced and prepared.

I wouldn't be visiting Starbucks before an important match!

"Lack of caffeine" makes me shaky and gives me a headache.

Too much caffeine is bad.

A Therapeutic Level is a good thing.

Heck, Paul. Since when do most cops get real firearm training?

I've watched many go through specialized training before and the description I have heard is that they often act like Starsky and Hutch with a firearm. I would support much better firearm training by all law enforcement. But, they need good teachers and I don't think there are many out there.

This picture says a lot!

Looks like my first grade teacher!  Probably why dad had me with a non-Nun for second grade.  I suspect he grew tired of paying for broken yard sticks!

Well, best laid plans have gone awry.  Had to cancel Perry this year.  This would've been 20 years.

That sucks Vic!!!  I almost had to cancel too, as my Niece is getting married, and I'm doing her wedding cake.  Fortunately, her wedding is the week before, so I'm going to Perry.  Gonna miss you this year!

Plan for next year!!!

Fiscal problems have decided for me, I'm not going this year.  Shoot, I really haven't paid for any of the trips since 2010! Really though, I'm just not ready.  The Garand has been giving me a hard time, I don't have any loads ready for it, etc.  The Krag needs the front sight replaced, and I have no extra bucks for range time.  I can get a lot more bang for my buck shooting in 88rd local matches.  They only charge a $10 entry fee, and I can still hold the AR up!

Well make plans for 2020.  Heck I'll even pick you up on the way from Gettysburg if you are tapped out in the wallet.  I know you're good for it.  I'll jest hold one of your Krags hostage for a while.

I should have some of the credit cards paid down a bit by next year.  As it is now, I can't get out of the house to play much at all!  I did score one of the components of that good bullet alloy at a reasonable price recently.  If I can't get out much, might as well do something useful!  I have some new to me molds to try out!

Well...  I'm bummed that I'm not going to see any of my shooting buddies this year!   :'(  I guess it will be just Ronald and myself on the firing line.  Next year, we're going to have to make it a BANNER year!  Everyone start planning now!!!  (You too Chuck)

Close, but not quite.  A couple of lead based babbitt ingots for less than $10.  Got enough to mix up about 15lbs of alloy.  That'll make around 500 311284s or 311365, or more of a lesser weight bullet.

Ok...  Since (as far as I know) most of my usual gang of Kragsters won't be attending the Roosevelt Match this year, I've decided to not make a reservation for dinner.  Ronald and I will still be going to Dock's Beach House, and I'll get a table with a few extra chairs in case anyone want's to join us... but otherwise, I'm not planning a huge dinner.

Again, we'll still be at Dock's Beach House at around 6:30 PM on August 1st.  Just no reservation for a big dinner party.  Please still feel free to find us though, and we'll have a good time!

Fourteen day countdown.  Wish I could be there this year but all I can do is look at Krag porn and day dream.  Some body get a group photo of the Krag shooters.
