Hi can anyone please tell me if this is a 1896 rear sight for a rifle or carbine

It is the model 1896 rifle sight.

(The carbine leaf numbers go to 20, with a "C" stamped on the right side, above the #19).

The carbine base has a "C" stamped on the right side.

FWIW - It looks like this sight has a black paint residue on it. The value of this sight would be around $50-60.
