Title: 1901 sight - partial disassembly to repair
Post by butlersrangers on Jul 15th, 2019 at 3:44am
In my spare Krag parts box was a model 1901 sight with a damaged leaf. When I obtained it, the leaf was bent and twisted.

I straightened it and cleaned up burrs and irregularities, but, the 'slide' still would bind at a couple of spots.

Recently, I got a replacement leaf from "Grandpa's Gun Parts". The part came quickly and was a good match.

I took some pictures to show inside details of the model 1901 sight in the hopes it is helpful to others.

Hints:
A fine pin-punch can be made from a damaged jeweler's screw-driver.

The small pin, that retains the 'slide-screw', is driven out from the rear.

A Drill Press Vise & Popsicle Sticks make a great 'third hand' and can gently compress springs to aid dis-assembly and re-assembly. (A small Drill Press Vise can be found for less than $20 on the internet).

(p.s. - I'll be Range Testing this model 1901 sight soon. It has a nice Big 'peep-hole').

(p.p.s. - I don't take Krag sights apart, except to replace damaged parts).
