Here's an eBay offering that's a real sweet beauty!...1894 Springfield Krag blued bayonet:

My wife still hasn't forgiven me for my Krag Bowie bayonet purchase so I'm going to have to pass on this one! :D

You can have it for a cool $2999.00 or you can "make an offer".

Wow! That looks like it was cold blued yesterday!

In fact, in the third picture, you can see where the cold blue applied sloppily went outside the back of the push release button. Like someone coloring outside of the lines.

I'll pass.

Well, if he gets his asking price I'll be fixing up the one I have!  It needs new wood, but I have original rivets.  Bluing is somewhat faded, but I can fix that too!

I don't know - the guy certainly leaves NO doubt in his description, and, he has a high eBay rating.

Unless he is just flat-out lying, I'd assume that one or two of the experts mentioned might even be posters here?

An awful lot of money, and I will say I wonder at his statement of how many were made - that must be his interpolation of how many were blued, can't be the total "1894" production. But, who REALLY knows?

I won't be bidding! :)

I agree that the seller is passionate about his belief that this is real. He does accept returns which is honest.  I think he's correct in saying that the bayonet is 100% original.

I just don't think it's 100% correct.

I'm not an edged weapon expert. Just my opinion. Looks like it was reblued by someone other than Springfield Armory to my non-expert eyes.

Very nice piece overall with a lot of history behind it no matter what.

I'm a Krag firearm collector, though. not bayonets. Hopefully someone will get it for a fair price and enjoy a great piece of Krag history.

I referenced my copy of Donald Hartman's book "The U.S. Krag Bayonets" and it does appear to be the blued bayonet posted on page 30.  It's from the collection of Anthony Marinaro.

I believe it to be legit and would love to have it for my collection but...$$$

Very nice example of a rare/scarce 1894 Krag blued bayonet.

Way back when I had more money than brains I was going to have one krag bayonet sample per year.  I stopped after the 1894, 1897, Bowie, Bolo, and fake bolo.  Other things pushed that project to the right and the excitement just kinda went away.  Frankly, I lost count of the little stuff I was buying so I may have a few more bayonets squirreled away in boxes in "The Pile".

Let the group know if you get the 1895.

I may be nuts, but this is more my speed. I have a 1900 Krag bayonet with the catch and all, but the blade was taken to a grinding wheel in it's lifetime and was made thinner. Paid $15. This one for$45 need some work and scales. But I'm thinking seriously about it. Saw it listed at the bottom of the Ebay item from this post.

Hey Knute like they say..."Beauty is in the eye of the beholder".

I'd say go-for-it and have a fun time doing whatever you plan on doing with it...as long as it's not illegal! :o

I've always had a soft spot in my heart for Sad Sack cases and derive much pleasure restoring them to their former glory...as best I can without doing any harm to the rifle or it's accessories.

BTW: I purchased the 1895...Thanks again Culp!

Just because I have been successfully divorced for thirty years does not mean I want to destroy a marriage.  He can do that all by his lonesome. ::)
