Ijust bought a 1898 krag serial # is 27787S.The front sight is not an original and the blade has come out.rear sight looks to be by looking at pictures an 1896 one. there is a P in a circle behind the trigger guard.I am new to the Krag world so any help on this firearm would be nice. thank you

Pictures are important to determine if any parts are correct.

Look closely at the date numbers - on some occasions, due to strength of strike, or a slight misalignment during stamping, the "1898" and "1899" can appear almost identical, requiring a good magnifier and good lighting.
It could be a Model 1899 Carbine, but it is absolutely NOT an (original) Model 1898 Carbine - they occur in the 117K-132K range. |

Likely a cutdown rifle. Again pictures are required for appropriate review. There some of the finest Krag experts on this forum.
