Title: Norwegian Krag info
Post by get kragin on Mar 10th, 2020 at 11:53pm
Hi there,
I recently got this model 1894 Norwegian Krag in 6.5x55 manufactured in 1902...  It's sporterized but I would like to bring it back to it's original configuration. Is it possible to find-out what the history of this rifle is based on Sn# 58118..?? Any help will be very much appreciated.
Thanks,
Bill

I can't find my way back to the Kongsberg site by searching.  Anyone got the link?  To me, the only way you'd be able to restore this back to original is if it was one of their carbine versions at one time.  If it was once a long rifle, you're talking new stock/handguard, new barrel, lots of bucks!

Is this possibly the link you are after?

Nice looking Norwegian sporter.  Check the barrel length to see if it has been shortened perhaps.  A google search should yield quite a few pictures of original rifles.  Parts and stock can be found.  But as indicated, can get pricey.  Good luck with the rifle.

Yea, thanks sixfive.  Their website is not the same as it was last time I was there.  But, it appears the Op's rifle was once a long rifle.  He could only turn it in a faux carbine without a new long barrel.  There's probably lots of take off long barrels in various states of condition in Norway, but I'm sure they'd be few and far between over here.

Caution for re-barreling: The Norwegian barrels have a left-hand thread.

"Left turn to tighten - Right turn to loosen"  :(
