Title: Muzzleloader Gun Show Find
Post by Knute1 on Mar 14th, 2020 at 10:20pm
Went to a  muzzleloader gun show today in Princeton, Il. Not a big venue and not advertised. But some A1 gun builders and antique gun displays. One guy had some military memorabilia and I found this stereo picture of the 3rd Cavalry drilling with Krag carbines in the Philippines. Didn't think I took too bad of a hurt for $3.

Neat Stereoscopic Photo! The carbines are model 1896 or model 1898.

Is it just me or the focus and shading?
The Mills Belts appear to have pockets rather than individual cartridge loops.

Mills had a 9-pocket cartridge belt patented in 1901 and 1903. Not sure if that is what they are wearing here. I am no expert on this subject. A belt on ebay on the link below.

I could be barking up a wrong tree.

How about just examining your "new" photo in good light with a magnifying glass to verify belt details?

Here’s one that I found of Troop I 6th U.S. Cavalry, Camp Tampa, Florida. The copyright is 1899.

I couldn't make out the picture any better with a magnifying glass with the copy I have. They appear quite dark.

Below is a name on the back of the card, but I can't decipher it.
