Been almost 40 years since I killed a wild turkey. Kind of handy since you process yourself and can quarter it or freeze in convenient serving sizes.
Around here it happens fairly often a turkey will develop a taste for the native chili pequins. The bird will be so hot when cooked that most could not eat it and few would enjoy it even if there was nothing else to eat. Think so hot that your fork melts.
This time of year that should not be a problem. This is the first year they have actually been staying on the place, so I am not going to bother them. They have always been heard gobbling on the neighbors places and seen once in a while crossing here. So far they make good neighbors unlike coons, possums, rattlesnakes or coyotes.
