Welcome to a great forum Shane!
All the aforementioned advice is "spot-on".
I would only add a couple of points. Start close and work your way out. With a difficult situation like yours, I might even start at 15 yds then 25 or 50.
Confirm your bore condition. I once got burnt on an internet trade for a 1898 Krag. The bore looked like a sewer pipe and wouldn't hold a 12" group at 20 yds, plus keyholing.
