I'm new at Krags, so a question for the community.
I just acquired an 1898 Springfield Krag with a serial number of 481XXX,  which is beyond anything I can find documenting Krags.  It's in a carbine configuration, 1898 carbine stock (not a cutdown, as near as I can tell), 1896 sight, 1905 front sight (so possibly a Bannerman?  Stoeger? rework).

I got it for it's own merits as an example in good shape, not as a collectible per se.  But I can't find anything about a serial number that high.  My source thinks it was built in 1904 or thereabouts.

Any insights?  I don't have photos yet, I'll try later as I'm stealing a few moments at work.....

I see the 481's from time to time. I suspect they were shelf stock for replacement purposes.
