East Coast Krag Hidden in Ceiling

Hi All:

Just joined the site today!  Have a question about a rifle that I discovered hidden in the joists of my home in Nova Scotia.  Upon discovery, I contacted a Canadian Firearm Registry verifier so as to obtain a certification number to log the firearm into Canada's RCMP Firearm Site.  The firearm was ID'ed as a 30-40 Krag.  I just checked for info on Krags and found the verifier had ID'ed the rifle as a US Krag.  I was unsure of this identification when I found a Nazi proof mark (eagle w. outspread wings perched on a swastika).  Rifle has Ser. No. Nb 1944-0XX.  Barrel length is 22 inches; overall length is 41.5 inches.  Single piece wooden stock drilled for sling hardware.  Fore end of stock is not full length and has finger grooves on each side of the fore end.  Front site is not hooded but has what appears to be a bayonet mount.  Caliber is not marked on barrel but bore measures 6.5 mm.  What firearm do I have?  I need to revise this information for the Canada Firearms Registry so the long gun can be properly registered.  I will provide pics tomorrow.  Any help will be greatly appreciated!  Thanks in advance!

Sounds like you have a Norwegian Krag, "Nazi occupation carbine" Pictures would be a big help.
