Krag carbine question

I am looking at adding a new member to the family. i just need to know if this is real or a cut down rifle.
the serial number is 281615 and it is a 1899. any help would be wonderful.
BTW, my other Krag is a 1894 rifle with a clean bore that is almost unused (at least when i got it!) but it is mucho fun to shoot!
Some dufus put a adjustable peep sight on it many years ago and i chose to leave it on, it works great, and judging by the wear and patina it was not long after the rifle left service that it was installed.
Thank you,

Serial # falls in a large block of carbines. If the markings on the receiver say 1899 then it at least started life as a carbine.
