Hello Ammo question

Hello, new guy here.  So happy to find this great site.  Wondering if someone could lead me to a site that sells the 30-40 ammo.  I inherited a Springfield 1898 rifle from my grandfather recently and would love to shoot it again.  Haven't bought shells for it in like ten years and just noticed recently that everybody seems to be backordered.  Sorry if this is an old topic but I didn't have time to go through all 48 pages to find this information.

Thanks in advance for any help with this question.  Please don't tell me I'm gonna have to reload cause I ended up giving away grandpa's reloading equipment..............

Try (You need to Login to view media files and links)

They are on track to secure a supply of brass and components to produce some new ammo in 2011.  They recently had a small amount for sale as well, but I suspect that may be gone by now.

There is a myth that a couple of the major manufacturers make seasonal runs and produce ammo that can be had from various suppliers.  I've had a few boxes on backorder from Sportsman's Guide or Midway for about a year and a half, so count me as becoming skeptical.   Roll Eyes

The odd box pops up occasionally on AA or Gunbroker.

Thanks a lot for the info.  Wow, that's a long time.  Looks like I'll just have to sit and look at it hanging on the wall for a while.

The Ammo Bank currently has stocks of reloaded Precision Cartridge, Inc. (PCI) commercial  Krag .30-40 reloads for $39.99 for a box of 20 rounds in 180 gr. I ordered a few boxes for my 1898 Springfield Krag that should be in sometime later this week. I'll let you know how they shoot. Reviews of other PCI ammo have been very good. I made some Krag ammo out of 303 British brass.  It is a little short but works fine in my rifles.  Just FL resize in Krag dies.

I've been finding some ammo here and there along the unbeaten path at ma and pa shops. I have 6 boxes since looking the past 4 months. I usually find the last box somebody has. However, earlier this month as I was travelling along I80 I stopped at the Cabela's in Kearney, Nebraska. They had 5 boxes for $29.99 each, so I only took one box. According to the Remington box they were made in 2009. The highest cost I paid was $33 and the lowest I paid was $20 (at a gun show).
Now I have 4 boxes of Winchester and 2 boxes of Remington plus reloading dies. I have not been lucky at finding brass.

Midway, Graf & Sons, Cabela's and others sell brass. But I have not found any that have Krag brass in stock. Appears to be run seasonally, looks like in Spring. Anyway, Midway online shows out of stock right now. But if there is a definate source/supply somewhere, I'm Undecided all ears.

I too recently acquired a bubba 1898 Krag, but got tired of looking for brass/ammo. So I ordered a batch of 1000 Remington 30-40 brass from Midsouth, they should arrive tomorrow. Between me and another member of our club, 500 pieces are already spoken for. If you are interested, I can sell all or part of the remaining 500 at my cost plus shipping. The wife would be happy if I paid off the credit card quickly. Ed

Hi all.
First post here. The Hunting Shack Ammunition has loaded 30-40 Krag ammo available. I've bought some from them, but haven't tried it yet.
