I have an 1898 model with a serial number of 248XXX.  I don't know guns, but it appears the wood is in very good condition and the metal as well.  The barrel measure 20 inches from tip to the loading mechanism.  Can you tell me anything about this gun and approximate its value?  Thanks!

Your barrel has likely been cut down. Rifles are 30" and carbines are 22" The serial number puts it in a 1899 carbine block  but the receiver should then read Model1899. Pictures would be a big help for accurate information!!
