Krag bayonet 1896

I purchased an 1896 Krag several years ago and the rifle came with a bayonet in the scabbard.  The bayonet looks like they made it yesterday the steel is shiny and stamped US on one side and 1896 on the other.  The scabbard has a steel loop that only swings 45 degrees left and right of center.  Is this correct for this rifle?
