I had a recent PM from a Forum member asking my preferences on these discontinued U.S. aftermarket sights.  I think it is good for Krag collector/enthusiasts to have a knowledge of these sights.  The sights have collector value and did not require permanent alteration (value destroying holes) of the receiver.  My favorite is the Redfield (earlier named 'Western') #102K.  These sell for $75 to $150 and require a special longer than issue side-plate screw and removal of magazine cut-off.  The #102K allows quick adjustment of its slide to facilitate bolt removal.  A set screw allows easy return to sighted-in position.  No alteration of the stock is needed.  Some Krags will show roughness in cartridge feeding with removal of the cut-off.  The solution is a properly oriented shaft in the cut-off 'slot' replicating the shaft of the original cut-off.  The #102K was probably manufactured from the late 1920s to 1964.  Another sight I like is the Pacific Model K-1.  These seem to sell for $50 to $80.  The Model K-1 nicely replaces the Krag magazine-cutoff but requires the 'notching' of the stock so the slide can descend to lowest elevations.  The elevation slide can be quickly removed from its base and reliably retuns to the sighted in setting.  I believe this sight was produced from the late 1920s to 1953.  Both Redfield (#70K) and Pacific (Model K-2) made micrometer versions of their 'no-drill' sights.  I don't care for these because there is no quick release.  It is tedious removing the elevation slide so the rifle bolt can be removed for gun cleaning.  The elevation adjustment is lost.  These sights also tend to be more expensive.  No one made a faultless 'no-drill' receiver sight for the Krag.  I believe all versions could be improved upon.  Also, most deer hunters did so by simply removing the aperature for a better field of vision on game.
