Bayonet bent tip

Hi, Has anyone had success in getting a bent tip back to where it should set? Looking at buying a blade that has about a 30 degree bend encompassing about a 1/4" of the tip. I'm guessing it got dropped on the point sometime in its life. Wonder if clamping in a vise with soft metal on either side could accomplish anything or am I'm looking at it snapping  off. Thanks, John

john42768:  With tempered steel that has 'sprung' into a bent position, I'm sure the tip will snap off if you try to mechanically straighten it.  Blacksmith skills are probably called for to take out the hardness, straighten, and re-temper.  I guess the risk is tied to the cost.  I believe bayonets are intended to be soft and flexible in the interior and hard on the surface.

Thanks for your input. It is not inexpensive so the risk factor is large. I figured trying to pound it out was a no-no, but thought the squeeze method might be less stressful. Such is life. John

your best bet is to take it to a knife maker or a good gunsmith that works on knifes also
