Krag Slings

I'm now in the market for a sling for my 1898.  I'd like it to be a 1903 version, but I'll use a 1907 as long as it's acceptable for use in Vintage matches.  I'd really like to keep the cost below $50 bucks too...

I looked at Turners, but they didn't have any 1903 slings, and the 1907 slings are a little too high in price right now.

I welcome all suggestions...

Thanks,  Cheesy
Paul

Paul:  If you want to get authentic get or make a 66&1/2 inch repro leather Krag sling.  I believe most or the repros are being made 72 inches long.  They are made with two sections sewn together which is correct but too long for the Krag.  I have one and intend to take it to a Shoemaker, have the sewn section cut out, and have it re-sewn to 66&1/2 inches.  Attached is a section of a photo of Col. Townsend Whelen's Infantry Team at the 1903 National Matches.  Note the peculiar method of running the sling through the rear swivel and attaching it to the front stacking swivel.  The photo appears more fully on page 143 of Mallory and Olson's "The Krag Rifle Story".  (ps--The Michigan Antique Arms Collector's, MAAC, show is this week-end in Novi).

Wholy Smokes Chuck...  I'll have to see if Dad wants to go to that!  Maybe I'll get a few things.

I may go ahead with the 1907 sling.  Thanks Parashooter

Well, I went to the MAAC show with my dad, and met Butlersrangers.

I picked up a 1907 sling, 1902 bayonet (sans scabbard), and a cleaning rod set and oiler.  My 1898 Krag is now complete!!!   Cool  Now, I just need to find a good scabbard for the bayonet.

The sling is in very good condition, but I think it could be cleaned up a little.  Does anyone have any suggestions on how to clean and soften the leather?

Paul
