	So if you read my other post, I have an original 1896 carbine that I am going to attempt to restore. In doing so I picked up this sporter Krag at the gun show last weeekend, armed with enough knowledge to be dangerous. I thought this was an original 1896 stock on this sporter, but now realize given the bolt handle cutout, I think its an 1898?? Which, per reading old posts here, will not fit an 1896 action. So, is this stock too far gone with the sanding and sling swivels to have any value?? Would there be a trade possibility for an 1896 stock, or should I go to the trouble to make this one fit?? It appears that 1898 carbines are the rarest, and if this is an 1898 stock that could be salvaged by someone I am open to trades, but would like to know a value so as not to get taken, or take advantage of someone else. Really appreciate any help! The cartouch and proof P have ben sanded away. (You need to *Login* to view media files and links) Just out of curiosity if someone wants to check the SRS the serial number on the action is 481065. If it comes up interesting I will eventually� restore it to a rifle. If not

	The stock looks like it is an 1898 Carbine stock and is salvageable (worth about $250). The barrel band is an 1899 Carbine band and wrong for this stock (worth about $50). The barreled action looks like it's a cut down rifle. You are best off leaving these parts as is and selling or trading them -- IMHO.

	The stock is 30in in length. If the stock checks out, I am open to trades on an 1896 stock or will sell it to finance a search for one. Barreled action is a cut down rifle, and will be the basis for a deer rifle for my youngest son, unless an SRS hit of interest pops up on the serial number. In which case it will become a restoration project in itself. Semper Fi, Rob

	I have a cutdown in a sporter stock that I hate. I have always wanted a carbine stock to put my cutdown action in. I would be willing to trade stocks, but I couldn't afford to buy one these days (saving for a Match Grade Garand for Camp Perry this year). Of course, I think you would be better to trade for a proper stock for your carbine... but if you need a stock for this one for hunting... Just a thought... Paul

	Thank you for the offer Paul, but I am not too worried about finding a stock to put back on this for hunting purposes. If you see my other thread on my 1896 carbine, that is the one I need to find, fund or trade this stock for. Semper Fi, Rob
