WTS - Very Nice Cutdown Krag Rifle SOLD
Apr 13th, 2013 at 12:35am

I have a 1898 30-40 Krag cutdown rifle.  It looks like a carbine from 8 to 10 feet.  It has the correct 1898 carbine stock with an 1898 JSA Cartouche.  The barrel appears to be a correct 22-inch carbine barrel.  The action with serial number 426,426 is for a 1902 rifle.  The rear sight appears to be for an 1896 rifle.  The front sight base appears to be genuine, the blade has been replaced.  My best guess from a 1924 ad, this may be a W. Stokes Kirk carbine.
The ad read “U S Army Krag Carbines, fitted with new model 1898 stocks.  The barrel, actions and other parts are either new or have been refinished by government and equal to new”.  There is no way to know for sure if it is an actual Stokes or not.  It in very good condition, it shoots and looks good.  I have owned it since 1957.
I am asking $1K for the Carbine, zipper case and a couple boxes of ammo.  Free shipping to FFL holder.
