What do i have?

About a year ago, i aquired a model 1898 krag from my grandfather who bought two of them off my uncle, he gave me the choice between the sportorized one or the "stock" one, fortunately i took the stock one. Now the problem is i can't figure out what i really have is it a carbine because it is shorter than the rifles or is it a cut down rifle?

No into photography, are you?  But I can see enough of the stock to tell you it's a cut off rifle.

I can't tell for sure because the pictures are so blurred, but, your commercial peep sight appears to be a Redfield 'no-drill' with a replacement Phillips-head screw and Lyman part (scale) added.  Your Krag definitely seems to be a cut-down Infantry rifle.  (Photo of a disassembled Redfield sight, attached).

Carlos_H:  Welcome to the KCA Forum.  Your Stock appears to be a shortened Rifle Stock with a nicely stamped '1900' Cartouche (acceptance mark).  Your wood seems light in color and to have a nice 'tiger stripe'.  It is probably Italian Walnut, which occurs in some 1899 & 1900 made Krags, due to a shortage of seasoned US stock blanks at that time.  More and clearer photos would get more answers.  (Attached photo is my Italian walnut stock for comparison).

Carlos:  I reduced your picture size a bit.  My, that is a pretty piece of wood!  Your 'peep' sight appears to have the Lyman 'running deer' on its scale, but a Redfield base - a "Lydfield"!

Here's some more pictures, the other ones were taken with a bad camera. It is a red field sight.
Thanks for the replies.

Carlos, with all due respect, borrow a better camera!  Your front sight appears to be a 'repositioned' original Krag sight base with a commercial blade.  I don't know the length of your barrel, but, the front sight base looks too close to the muzzle for it to be an arsenal carbine barrel.  The serial number would be helpful.  Does your receiver say "Model 1898"?
