Has anyone tried this mount?  Is any alteration to the metal or stock required?

I have no direct experience with the S&K mount for the Krag (U.S. or Norwegian).  However, there is a metal band that goes around the action's 'receiver ring'.  This requires inletting into the stock.  Also, the reputation on these mounts for the Krag is not good.  (Welcome to the KCA forum)!

At one time you had two choices: (1) drill & tap (2) S&K.

There is now a third option, at least for US rifles. Someone (Kraghaus?) makes a Picatinny rail which mounts to the rear sight holes and uses a long eye relief pistol scope. This also solves the ejection and safety issues encountered with a conventional scope. Best of all, it is completely non-invasive.

Only downside is that it looks a little dorky, requires hand-guard removal (with the perils of breakage and safe storage of same) and would require some care in handling. That said, for range use, I do not see how one who wished for the best possible sight picture could go wrong.

I'm getting ready to install the Kraghaus long rail on my sporter (as soon as I receive it)... which has no hand guard to worry about.  I'll post how it works out!

Looks like I'll pass on the S&K mount.   Unfortunately, the Kraghaus is not available for the Norwegian. Is there a drill and tap mount available?  I thought that since Williams discontinued the adapter plate for the Norwegian none were available.  Drilling and tapping is not a big issue since the stock has been cut and refinished and the barrel shortened.  I may just go with a Williams FP sight if scoping is impractical.  I just don"t do that well with open sights any more.  Thanks for the answers.
