Real or Fake - Constabulary Carbine

I blundered into this listing yesterday on Guns International. It is being sold by an Arms Dealer, 'Monty W...', as a correct Constabulary Carbine.  I regard this piece as correct as its title: "Phillipine" (sic).  The price is $2950.  The pictures don't show much.  Muzzle looks freshly machined and front sight appears mounted crudely.  The fit of front band looks suspicious to me.  I believe the Magazine-gate is a Model 1896.  Left side of action shows inconsistencies in wear and patina on different parts.  This stuff makes me mad.  'Monty' must work for the current Administration in DC (Trying to separate 'gun fanciers' from their money).

Looks like a "Parts Job" to me...  and yes, that muzzle machining and front sight are very suspicious.  Too many inconsistencies!

IIRC, having read both Brophy & Mallory, most of the real Constabulary Rifles were re-done 1899 Carbines, with just a few 1898 rifles and even fewer 1896s.  No sale at asking price, but I might pay 14 % of asking.

Has a LOT of negatives, in addition to those noted, the bayonet lug is (incorrectly) not ground for the 1905 bayonet latch - a requirement for the genuine item. The seller obviously thinks that "pretty" trumps "correct" when setting the price. He'll be keeping it for awhile.
