Forum says I have to post a "normal" post before I can link photos, so here's the normal post. Next reply will have about 30+ photos if I do this right.

Hey all, I will admit that I have just joined to post a bunch of pictures of the 1898 that followed me home this afternoon (actually got it in a package deal with a 1944 Arisaka 99) and in an effort to get some opinions on it. On the fence right now as to if it's going to be a keeper or maybe find it an owner who can give it the attention it deserves.

Seems to be in decent shape, a few spots that looked like rust were decades-old dried up grease. Bore has strong rifling but for the life of me I don't know how you guys get good photos of the bore. Noting in the stock, doesn't look like any work has ever been done to it. Nice cartouche and aside from dings and such, no significant damage to the stock.

...So without further ado, here's the Krag porn, reduced size pics so folks monitors don't explode. I resized them so the long end is 800px. Full size can be found at (You need to Login to view media files and links).

Looks like a keeper to me, depends on what you have in it I guess. A really good detail cleaning will make it look even nicer.

...and I guess some of us are OFNG's and so on...

So today I took this thing down and went to town cleaning it up. I imagine some of the grease in there hadn't seen the light of day since the year the rifle was built (and my grandfather was born). I was surprised to see how clean the bore got, I had heard about them being dark but this one looks to have a bit of life and a nice shine left in it. Metal shows less age than a couple of my WW2 guns and the stock is also in real good shape, some dings but no cracks. I did notice what seems to be a "99" stamped on the bottom of the handguard - assuming perhaps this is the year of manufacture?
