	Rifle has a 2" high "A" branded into the left side of the stock.

	From the SRS records: 91978 96Rifle 06/08/00 8th Inf (Turned in) 92001 96Rifle 07/14/99 8th Inf Your rifle falls between these two numbers, but it doesn't mean that it was also issued to the 8th Inf. Must be an exact "hit" to mean anything.
