Here are pics of my grandfather's heavily sporterized Model 1898, which he used to take many whitetails form the 30s through the 50s. He retired to FLA where it was stored in his attic for years. I inherited it after he passed in 1977 and when inspecting it, I found that the barrel had become so badly rusted that I feared it was unusable. Took it to a gunsmith who did a great job to clean up the bore. Since then it consistently shoots MOA groups with it's favorite reloads. at 100 yds. Since inheriting it I have  taken many whitetails and one  black bear with it. My youngest son (he's now 27) carries on the tradition and has been hunting with it since he was 14 and has taken multiple whitetails, 2 of them really nice bucks.

Well, IMHO it's a pretty nice looking sporter.  I can see it as a great hunting rifle... and a wonderful heirloom to pass down for generations!

That's a great looking rifle.  Definitely pass it down as an heirloom.

Someone put a lot of work into that beautiful rifle!

So when is this "Old enough to know better" supposed to kick in?
