Sizing Die Mod

Anybody opened up the neck area on a full length sizing die?  How much did you open it up?  I started doing that with my 30-06 dies.  I bought 3 used ones off ebay and opened them up in 2 thou increments instead of using my my bushing die.  Then I used a mandrel.  The unsized portion of the neck was sticking in my Giraud trimmer.  No bushing dies for Krag anyway.

I think standard dies over work the necks also. I thought the dies were to hard to machine and have lapped them out. Now that I think about it I am not sure if I have tried to scratch a die with a file to see how hard it is. what ever way you do it try not to change the centerline. A member here did some experiments with dies that made the necks off center and it really affected accuracy.

Got a bushing die for a .308?  Leaves the case unsupported, but as long as you're attentive when you put the brass in the shellholder, it'll do fine.
