1899 cuban contract Remington-Lee carbine sling?

Hi forum

What's the correct sling for the 1899 cuban contract Remington-Lee carbine..?
Is it the same leather sling that for the US Krag-Jorgensen rifle? Or maybe the M1894 Mills web sling?

And for a friend : does the 1899 Rem-Lee rifle use the same bayonet that the small bore Remington Rolling-block?

Thanks  Wink

Francois

Francois - The State of Michigan adopted the model 1899 Remington-Lee rifle and it briefly saw Michigan State Troop (National Guard) service from about 1898 to 1904.

The bayonet is like the No. 5 Rolling-Block knife bayonet. The leather scabbard was used with a special cloth 'Mills Belt' so it hooked on the belt, like an early Krag scabbard. The Michigan belts were dark blue with individual cartridge loops, as well as, pockets for spare Lee magazines.

The Slings were leather, but, appear different than Krag slings. The photographs do not show them very clearly.

I imagine a French WW1 rifle or Model 1893 Spanish Mauser sling would make a good substitute.

It's hard to see clearly the 'hook' and 'keeper' arrangement of the Remington m1899 sling.

Also, an example the Remington-Lee cartridge belt.

Thank you very much for your help butlersrangers, it's very interesting...  Smiley

Looking at the ammo belt, we can suppose that the Remington-Lee rifles and carbines were used with 4 spare magazines. It can be an explanation for the magazines matching the rifle or carbine serial and the others magazines, not numbered, totally blank.
