Repro 96 carbine stocks (Read 2401 times)

	Member Robert Champeau has found a fellow in OK who is making reproduction 96 carbine stocks. These are photos he took of his recently received project. No, they're not drop in and not totally finished, but would have to be an improvement over trying to get one to look right in a Boyd's stock. Since Robert is a member, I'll let him comment on how things fit as his project moves along. He's moving now, so it may be awhile before he gets to it. I moved recently, reloading stuff is still in boxes! So I'm familiar with that situation! Here's the seller's website: (You need to *Login* to view media files and links)

	Perhaps they'll make rifle stocks eventually. It would certainly sell!

	I'm going to ask a question that may be ignorant. Why are Krag replacement stock never completely finished?

	IMHO: Hand-fitting a barreled/action, barrel-bands, butt-swivel or sling-bar, and butt-plate to a stock blank is all very labor intensive and requires skill and lots of time. Final shaping and finishing a gun stock also is time consuming and requires skill and care. A 'drop in' Finished Stock would be very expensive and require some compromises (generous tolerances) to be 'Drop In'. That is why loose, original, serviceable, attractive Krag stocks command so much money. (Also the same for other military stocks).

	I reposted in the Classifieds a link to Custom Rifle stocks (Formerly Mike Kokolus) excellent quality stocks, not cheap but little or no fitting work necessary. I have not dealt with them recently but past experience has been very positive.

	I requested info from them today. I have a model 1898 in a Bishop monte carlo stock that would be a good candidate.
