Krag Trainer?Solid Barrel.Stocked marked 5th 34 M (Read 2533 times)

	Hello, I came across a full length Krag Model 1898, serial number 224488. The buttstock is stamped in large letters/numbers "5th" and underneath that is "34" and underneath that is "M". Everything functions, fires, and ejects. Now the really interesting part is that the full length barrel is solid and never was rifled. Also, the bolt face where the firing pin exits is brazed over with brass.....Has anyone ever seen anything like this ? Thanks for your help.

	Not sure I understand, exactly. Your description would appear to have some conflicts. The barrel is a solid bar of steel, lacking a bore all the way through, but does have a chamber? Or, could the bore just be filthy dirty or terribly leaded - to the point that it looks smooth? Is the barrel properly finished on the exterior, with correct sight mountings, etc? If the face of the bolt is "brazed over", how does the firing pin protrude? I have never heard of anything even close to what you describe.

	Yelp, I'm a bit confused with how it fires a shot considering "...barrel is solid [or is it smooth bored?] and never was rifled. Also, the bolt face where the firing pin exits is brazed over with brass..." Anxious to see the pics. Vic

	After rereading a number of times I am going with smooth bore, he does say " solid and never was rifled", (smooth might have been better than solid) and that the firing mechanism (bolt internal parts) work when trigger is pulled. Still want pics

	I have seen several Krag "drill" rifles with a steel rod driven into the chamber making it impossible to get a cartridge into the chamber. Maybe this is what the OP has.

	I have an 1892 flat muzzle barrel which some a-hole bored out from the rear, obiterating the chamber. I assume it could be fixed with a liner, but have never pursued the matter.
