	Serial Nr 164004. Professional looking job, long ago, for target shooting. Barrel shortened to 24". Turned down a bit to accept 1903 sight and muzzle crowned. Lightening hole in fore end filled as is handguard. Lyman 48 rear sight. For the rapid fire stages used tar tape to hold the five rims in alignment, close the magazine on them and pull out the tape. 	Man that's a beautiful rifle. You must have one fine collection of Krags. Those mods were prolly done a long, long, time ago. I have a similar rifle named Stella that has a 27" barrel and a Redfield no-drill rear sight. She is a model 1892 with quite a bit more wear and tear but is much loved nonetheless. Her bore is darn near perfect. She was apparently well-used but well cared for. I use the Krag speedloaders purchased from this site during rapid fire.

	Bote, Speedloader ? where do you get one ? I ran out of tar tape years ago. Didn't get an answer on this ones serial nr. Back in the teens and twenties, when the government pushed shooting, my grandfather worked at the Bureau of Standards where their rifle team made these up. John Garand was also a member. If only the rifles could talk. Joe

	You didn't ask about serial number. No 'SRS hit' on U.S. Krag, #164004. It is bracketed by #163993 and #164014, both model 1898 rifles, issued 06/08/1900, to Co. F, 33rd USV Inf. It is likely your Krag was assembled around January, 1899. IMHO - Your oral history, passed down through your family with this Krag, is far more interesting than SRS data. Contact 'psteinmayer' if you need 'speed-loaders'. He makes nice ones.
