You have a Model 1899 carbine, brother.  Run a cleaning rod down the barrel to a closed bolt.  Should be twenty-two inches.  Stock on the other hand has problems.  Do you have a pic of the right side of the stock at the barrel band?  ...and a good pic of the muzzle with the front sight?

At least, after FY1899 but before FY1903.  I don't have my Mallory or Farmer books here in Djibouti.  One of the other guys will have to meander along and speak up.

U.S. model 1899 Krag carbine, #357169 (?), would have been assembled at Springfield Armory around November, 1901.

Your Krag carbine was altered by someone to use it for Hunting - (ventilated rubber butt-pad, dove-tailed sporting rear-sight, and improvised sling & swivels).

Your photos don't show Stock or front-sight well enough to tell if they are original carbine parts.

Model 1899 Krags were only built as carbines.

Welcome to the KCA Forum. Nice family heirloom!

Your Krag's stock is a model 1899 carbine stock, that someone defaced by putting on the rubber butt-pad. Your stock lacked sling-swivels. A hunter improvised some.

Your Krag is chambered for the U.S. .30-40 cartridge, unless someone re-chambered it - (unlikely).

Sometimes Krag serial numbers are very deeply stamped and it is easy to misread digits. 3s can look like 8s. 6s can look like 8s. 5s, 9s and 8s can be confused.

Highest U.S. Krag serial numbers are in the 480K range.

Your number is in 357,XXX range. Your pictures are poor in clarity. A magnifying glass and good lighting should help you decipher your number.
