I was told that the CMP traded 03-A3's for the Krags. I saw them at the South Store...also some marked MGM. I wish I had bought one.

From time to time, there have been threads on the KCA and other gun forums listing movies (and TV shows) that featured Krags, as 'prop' guns.

The list is long. I don't care to repeat it, but, the 'prop' use is an interesting 'after life' of the Krag - Movie Star!

Gentlemen,
I recall seeing those guns at the old MGM auction many years ago.  Prices were good until one looked down the barrel.  They were sewer pipes!  I personally knew one of their weapons personel, and he told me that when the weapons were returned to the studio, they were just returned to the arms rack..............never cleaned!

Internet Movie Firearms Database (imfdb.org) is an interesting site to go to.

BTW: The same gun appears to be listed on Gun Broker.  Current bidding is at $499.99

I've never heard of the "Correct Blank Firing Adapter."  It looks like, in addition to drilling a hole in the side plate, there was some possible modification to the ramp too.  If so, then when the device is removed, it might cause problems with feeding regular cartridges.  The stock and handguard are pretty rough too!

That Krag was probably repeatedly dropped by actors portraying Indian Thugs in 'Gunga Din'.

A 'Movie Sergeant' can do anything - smoke a pipe, while playing a harmonica and reading sheet music (propped up with a British Pattern 1888 bayonet).

Those movie prop guns had to suffer a lot of abuse. Charlie's model 1896 Krag seems to be fitted with a pattern 1888 bayonet. I am not certain about the second bayonet in a Krag scabbard on his Mills Belt. I think that is also a British pattern 1888 hilt and the rivets look mighty shiny, like brass.

(BTW - The 'helmets' appear to be cut and shaped felt hats).

I think the studio guns were the whole reason CMP got with Criterion to make new Krag barrels.  Some of us have seen what happens to black powder guns put away without cleaning, and the same happens to those fired with black powder blanks.
