1898 Krag - JSA 1901

I am a new member, and and I am thrilled to have found this group.  I have an 1898 Springfield Krag that I inherited from my dad about 15 years ago. It has a JSA 1901 cartouche, and serial number of 367xxx. I don't know where or when he got it, but it hung over his fireplace for many years.  It is in very good original condition, with bayonet and scabbard, sling and cleaning kit in the stock.  The only thing I think it is missing is the brass muzzle cap that I have seen pictures of.  At least since I've had it, I've kept it clean and oiled.  The bore looks pretty good. I haven't shot it yet, but I intend to soon.

Welcome to the forum, and to the wonderful world of Krags Vaccaro.  Be careful... Krags are quite addicting!

Brass muzzle caps are available from time to time on EBay, and also from Grandpa's Gun Parts.  They are pricey though.

Hows about some pictures so we can enjoy your new love?

It appears that your rifle is missing its front site blade and its hand guard. I wouldn't worry about the brass front sight cover.

Great pics!  Yeah, probably be good to get a front sight blade and pin.  Then go out and shoot some.
I got a reproduction handguard for one of my 98s.

Check out our classified section for parts.
Note: handguards are specific to rear sight models

I suspect rear sight was intended.
