How Do You Collect?

Hi, everyone. As I enjoy my first Krag, a U.S. Model 1896 rifle, I wonder what Krag I might consider getting next.

I'm sure that there are plenty here with more than one Krag and I'd appreciate hearing how you collect. Do you get examples from different countries? For those who collect U.S. Krags, do you go for different time periods? Perhaps you get a carbine next to complement your rifle, or vice versa? What's your collecting strategy?

What opportunity presents and finances allow. Some guns I just acquire to 'play' with and work on.

I take what I can get at low end prices.  At one time I thought I could make a little money out of rebuilding them, but now there's too much competition in that area.

I’m thinking of a Danish or Norwegian Krag next, though they obviously aren’t as plentiful in the US. I’m also thinking about a carbine. I like the idea of being patient and seeing what comes along in the right condition for the right price.

I am first a shooter & collector of single shots.  Long ago, (60 years?) I used a borrowed home-modified Krag as a deer rifle.  I became an instant convert, the Krag being the best hunting rifle ever made.  I have since come into a Bannerman rebarreled sporter and later, what looks to be a Benicia-altered NRA carbine.  My goal is a very nice, 100 % original 1896 rifle.
