Recently, I posted some pictures of a 'cut-away' Krag that was sold at auction (with an impossible description). It was very attractively done and raised many questions.

Reviewing my copy of Brophy's book, "The 1903 Springfield Rifle", showed some relevant observations on legitimate Sectionalized model 1903 Springfield Rifles, likely made at Springfield Armory, as well as, some 1903 and 1903A3 sectionalized rifles made by Remington.

I have also been searching, Springfield Armory Museum - Collection Record, for photographs in their collection of sectionalized arms. (This is an ackward and slow process)!

I have not found a sectionalized U.S. Krag, yet. There is, however, an interesting array of arms at Springfield Armory that were "sectionalized". Often, it is not clear when, where, or by whom, the work was done. 

As one can see, the quality of workmanship is quite variable.

Some sectionalized arms were done by private makers, some by foreign arsenals, some on issued arms, and some on un-numbered/un-issued arms.

Has anyone encountered the large (3X?) wooden instructional cutaway models?  I saw them for the Browning 1919 MG and the Garand when I was in the USN in the early 1960s.
