'Skates' the Mascot ... Nice Dog!

Close-up of pack shows company letter (F) above 'crossed-rifles' and regiment number (22) below. (This is opposite of scheme used on U.S. Hat-Badges).

Close-up of Bayonets shows they are not really 'fixed' to front barrel-band/lug.

WT ... ? - Who's Mr. McKay, photographer/'artist', trying to fool? ... Early Photo Shoppe??!

The Diabolical Sgt. Culpeper guarding his booze?

Naw!

He's not a good enough shot to have those collar 'tabs'.

(I think it's the 'Bean Kid', all growed up)!

They appear to be Smith & Wesson Model 3 or sometimes known as the Russian/Schofield model depending on caliber/design differences.

At first glance the pistols look like S&W DA32's, but there were several companies making lookalike models at that time.  They could also be H&A, Iver Johnson, or others akin to the famous Grace L. Ferguson Airline and Storm Door Company as immortalized by Bob Newhart.  The cylinders of these two in the picture seem to have an extra long cylinder stops at the back end of the cylinder which was not, I don't think, on the actual S&W models.

HA!  Guarding booze?  Pffft.  He is guarding his virginity.  Look at the bed.  Totally inspection order and no scantity-clad woman.

My thoughts were that the revolvers were too small to be the big S&W Model 3 Russian or Schofield types.
