Krag speedloader project about done.

Here’s my home made speed-loader. Not too pretty I’m afraid. The next one I make will be prettier. I added the steel tab on the bullet end today. Keeps me from putting it too deep into the gate opening which keeps the rounds from falling free. I also added a tapered insert to make the five .30-40s lean toward the open end of the unit. Added the suede to give it some grip. I tried it out this afternoon and it actually worked. Insert unit into the open loading gate and depress the lever, 5 rds fall into the action, remove loader and close the gate. Gravity works all the time. A whole lot faster than one or two at a time. Might be a hair faster than a stripper clip as they have to be inserted into a clip guide.

Much less untidy than some of my efforts making finger powered ones.  What sort of spring did you use?  I'd thought a Mosin magazine spring would be close to what's needed.

I jbwelded a flat washer to the underside of the ‘button’ in which a small diameter wire coiled spring just barely fits inside of the hole. I added a second smaller spring (inside if the first) to make it a little more positive. Jbweld is your friend.
In thinking about my next version ‘charger’ I’m wondering if a couple of small coiled springs could be used inside of the unit to propel a teflon follower to push the rounds out of the charger.

So it's gravity feed at present?  Oh, now I see that in the original post!

Yes it runs on gravity, I thought you were referring to the cartridge release.
