Doesn't fit the serial number range for an authentic 1898 carbine. We would need to see pictures to see what you have and help put a value on it. In my opinion, that price seems way too high for what is likely a cut down 1898 rifle. It would be worth more if it, by chance, had an 1896 carbine rear sight which is worth upwards of $600 by itself.

Highly unlikely, though. If you can post pictures or give more info, that would help! Might only be worth parts value of a few hundred, mostly the rear sight if it is one of the carbine sights.

Keep looking, though. You'll find a good one eventually!
